Credentials
I'm a licensed Professional Engineer in Connecticut (PE License PEN.0038729) with a civil engineering degree and a focus on residential structural work: wood framing, load paths, beam design, and the connection details that hold it all together. The houses I work in every day are platform-framed colonials, balloon-framed Victorians, capes, and raised ranches. I also take on light commercial work, mostly storefront and tenant-space alterations to existing buildings.
For homeowner projects, I come out and verify the structure myself before I design anything. For contractors and design professionals, I also work from plans and photos when the documentation supports it, and plan review and stamping usually runs entirely from your drawings.
Engineering Philosophy
Too many structural letters get issued by an engineer who never saw the property, never asked a follow-up question, and designed around guesses. That approach misses critical details that only real investigation reveals, whether that investigation happens on site or in a properly documented set of plans and photos.
I've walked into projects where the "load-bearing wall" turned out to be a partition, and others where a wall that looked non-structural was actually carrying the entire second floor. You can't make that call from a photo.
On a typical homeowner project, I come to the property, meet the contractor, and take my own measurements. Then I run the analysis carefully at my desk and call you to talk through the solution and the options. When I stamp a structural letter, I have personally verified the conditions it is based on, and the numbers behind it got my full attention, not a guess made standing in your kitchen. That is the standard of care I believe every homeowner deserves.
For Architects, Designers, and Contractors
A growing share of my work is plan review and stamping for design professionals, and repeat engineering for contractors. That work often runs from your documents: send the drawings or the photos and framing details, and I'll tell you whether they're enough or whether the job needs a visit.
