What I Do

Most of my work is residential structural engineering. The projects below all end the same way: a stamped, permit-ready letter or plan from the engineer who stood in your house.

Load-bearing wall removal. Open up a kitchen or combine rooms. Beam sizing, posts, connections, and the stamped letter for your permit.
Dormers and roof changes. Shed and gable dormers, ridge beams, roof framing.
Beams, headers, and posts. Sagging beams, garage door headers, undersized members.
Decks and porches. Ledgers, footings, and framing that pass inspection the first time.
Additions and bump-outs. Framing and foundation design for added space, including second stories.
Structural inspections and letters. When a bank, insurer, or building official wants a PE's opinion in writing.
Foundation evaluations. Cracks, bowing walls, settlement, and evaluation letters. Including pyrrhotite concerns in affected towns.
Plan review and stamping. For architects and designers who need a structural set reviewed and sealed. Often runs entirely from your drawings.

For Contractors, Architects, and Designers

A lot of my work is repeat work from the trades, and I run it the way you'd want: a direct line to the engineer, straight answers on scope and fee, and letters your building department accepts on the first review.

Architects and designers: I review and stamp structural sets, and plan review usually runs entirely from your drawings. Contractors: once we've worked together and I know how you document a job, some projects can run from your plans, photos, and measurements without a visit. How I Take On Projects

1 One call. Describe the project in a sentence or two. I'll tell you straight whether you need an engineer at all, and if you do, you get the price on that call.

2 One fixed price, and a date. The number is set before any work starts and it covers the job start to finish, including revisions your building department asks for. We put the site visit on the calendar while we're on the phone.

3 Photos before I come out. Your confirmation includes an upload link. Send whatever you can and I'll go through it the night before, so I show up already knowing your house.

4 The visit. I take my own measurements, photos, and framing details and check the structure myself.

5 Stamped and delivered. I run the analysis properly at my desk, then call you and your contractor to walk through the options. Your permit-ready stamped letter typically follows within a few business days of the visit.

Site visits are Saturdays or weekday evenings. Closed Sundays.
